Observe poetry in motion at UT Libraries! Two exciting local poets and artists will speak at the next Writers in the Library event on Monday, September 15 at 7 p.m. in the Hodges Library auditorium.
Matt Urmy is a storyteller, poet, and musician. Urmy has released a book of poetry entitled Ghosts in a House from Finishing Line Press and has recorded and released four independent musical albums. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Urmy has an interest in Healing Arts and has spent time studying with Maori healers in New Zealand. Urmy is deeply involved in philanthropic endeavors and recently founded the non-profit Global Artist’s Alliance for Community Equity. He is also a member of The Alliance For Native American Indian Rights. He currently lives in Knoxville.
Andrew Najberg is a full-time lecturer at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He is a recent recipient of an AWP Intro Prize, and his poetry has appeared in Bat City Review, New Millennium Writings, Blood Lotus, and a forthcoming issue of Artful Dodge. In addition, his work will appear in the upcoming KWG anthology. He is the author of Easy to Lose, a collection of poetry published by Finishing Line Press. Najberg received a BA in English with a creative emphasis and an MA in English with a creative thesis from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2001 and 2006 respectively. He is working towards an MFA in poetry at Spalding University. He currently lives in Knoxville.
