Description

The Graduate Student Library Assistant for Assessment Programs and Collection Strategy is an essential part of the department’s team, assisting with a variety of data-related and technical service tasks. The position provides students the opportunity to gain in-demand technical skills and first-hand experience working in a large academic library and learning from highly qualified practitioners. Students have the opportunity to work with all parts of the collections life cycle, such as selection, acquisition, renewal decisions, and deselection. Students may also work on projects to assess the Libraries’ services and spaces, which vary in topic and activity. Immediate needs include assisting with data retrieval and management; updating order and item records; locating, creating, and verifying inventories of journals, books, maps, and government documents.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Updates item and order information in the Libraries’ integrated system (Alma)
  • Assists with tasks related to the annual Faculty Bookplate event
  • Assists with data retrieval and management, such as usage statistics for electronic resources
  • Assists with compiling, cleaning, and analyzing data
  • Assists with recurring departmental processes
  • Assists with other various assessment and collections projects as needed
  • May assist with LibGuide and website maintenance
  • May assist with resource selection and ordering

Required Qualifications

  • Current graduate student
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Ability to learn how to use various computer programs and systems
  • Ability to complete duties without close supervision
  • Ability to work well with others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate student in Information Sciences or related program
  • Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS)
  • Experience editing webpages in WordPress, Drupal, LibGuides, or similar platforms
  • Experience working in libraries
  • Familiarity with L.C. and SUDOC call number system
