Description

The Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library is accepting applications for Student Library Assistants. Student Library Assistants (SLAs) are the front-line staff for Pendergrass Library’s circulation desk. SLAs are responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to checking materials in and out, shelving, shelf reading, large format printing, fulfulling PDF and item requests, taking part in various library projects, and providing excellent patron assistance.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Helping with the management of the circulation desk, including checking materials in and out.
  • Assisting patrons with locating library materials and searching databases.
  • Processing work requests, such as scanning and interlibrary loans.
  • WIllingness to assist the Agriculture Librarian, Veterinary Medicine Librarian, Public Services and Engagement Librarian, and other library staff with special projects.
  • Learning the Library of Congress organizational method for finding and shelf-reading books.
  • Fulfilling Large Format Print (Poster) requests.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current UT student.
  • Ability to work well with the public: excellent communication skills, multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and ability to work within a team framework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of Macintosh and Windows-based computers and software including Word and Excel.
  • Experience as a library user or previous work experience in a library.
