All Volunteers have different research needs and we understand that everyone’s communications preferences differ. Luckily, UT Libraries offers many ways to connect and receive one-on-one help — from wherever you are!
Your success means the world to us, and we want you to know that we’re always here to help! Let’s work together to find primary and secondary sources, navigate databases, evaluate resources and so much more.
We hope to connect with you, in whatever way you prefer, very soon.
Text Us
- Maybe your roommate is sleeping, or perhaps talking on the phone just isn’t your thing — rest assured, we’ve got your back. Text your questions to 865-940-0821 to connect with a member of the UT Libraries’ team directly.
Email Us
- Our research assistance staff members, coupled with a seemingly unending supply of caffeinated beverages, are always available via email for your questions. Big or small, we’re ready for them all.
Call Us
- Save this number in your phone: (865) 974-4351. Then give us a ring when you have a question or need assistance…or even just to say hello. Bonus points if you list our contact info as “Rockstar Librarians” or something equally as epic.
Chat with Us
- Online: If you’ve ever found yourself infuriated by online chatbots (haven’t we all?), please know that UT Libraries’ online chat is a no bot zone! Our chat is staffed by, well, our staff. We’ve got a crew of smiling faces online and ready to help you out, and can always transition our online chat to a Zoom session to screen share.
- In Person: For quick questions while at Hodges, please feel free to mask up and come visit a librarian at our Public Services Desk near the 2nd floor Melrose entrance.
Consult with Us
- One on one consultations are available in support of your specific projects. Let’s get an appointment scheduled.
- Our awesome team of subject librarians are always here for your questions or to assist with your individual research needs.
- Participate in our live, online workshops, with topics ranging from research questions, primary and secondary sources, information privilege and more. Can’t make a session? Past workshops are available for you on demand or you can explore our online tutorials at your own pace.
Privacy Information
UT Libraries uses Springshare tools (LibAnswers, LibChat, etc.) and Zoom video conferencing to provide research assistance online. Please see the Springshare privacy policy and the Zoom privacy statement for more information. We understand that our patrons may have concerns with the privacy and security of these tools. If you are not comfortable using these tools, we can provide support via telephone at (865) 974-4351.
Zoom sessions may be recorded by your chat provider. These recordings are to ensure the safety of patrons and library staff. We ask that both parties follow the University of Tennessee’s Codes of Conduct for Students and Employees. We intend to delete all recordings within 24 hours except in the case of conduct that warrants reporting. In that case, the recording will be submitted to the appropriate university office.
