Outreach and Community Learning ServicesKnox County Public Library
Library cards are free for all students who live in Knox County. The library subscribes to several electronic databases and has a large physical collection to provide research materials.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries
This is a large, academic library with a research emphasis. Browsing the physical collection is free. Off-campus electronic access to subscription databases is password protected for only faculty and student use, but databases can be accessed by the public on designated computers at Hodges Library. Books and information can be checked out to the public using InterLibrary Loan. Talk to your school librarian about how to do this.
The library also has subject search guides that are a great starting point for any research project. See them here.
TEL (Tennessee Electronic Library)
The Tennessee Electronic Library has free academic databases, electronic encyclopedias, and electronic periodicals for all Tennesseans. For those who are unable to visit Hodges Library to use their databases, this is a great alternative.
The Library of Congress
The Library of Congress has several public access databases for electronic documents. The collections are searchable and separated by general subject matter.
World Cat
This site catalogs library collections around the world. It is a useful tool for finding specialized books or books that are not available at a local library. These titles can then be received at the Knox County Library through interlibrary loan.
Internet Public Library
This site contains public access databases on a variety of subjects for adult, teen, and youth audiences.
