Library Storage Annex

The university is building a Library Storage Annex, a modern climate-controlled facility that will house the UT Libraries’ special collections materials; the University of Tennessee Archives; the Modern Political Archives; important but little-used items from the general collections; and other library materials that require long-term preservation.
The 16,000-square-foot storage facility on Middlebrook Pike is being built about five miles from the main campus and will provide consistent temperature and humidity controls, which would safeguard the Libraries’ most fragile holdings. Once completed, patrons can request items from the Storage Annex and they will be delivered to campus, usually within one day.
The project is estimated to cost $15 million and is expected to be completed in late summer or early fall of 2026.
