Species coexistence is fundamental to maintaining biological diversity. How species with similar resource requirements can coexist in the same space is a hotly debated topic in ecology because it has direct consequences on our understanding of the functioning of ecosystems and how to conserve them while using them in a sustainable way. This book offers a mechanistic understanding of when and how such coexistence is possible. It is a book I would have loved to read when I was a graduate student.

I chose this book because it beautifully illustrates how true satisfaction comes not from wealth or success, but from making a difference in people's lives. Nothing gives greater satisfaction than helping to educate children and empowering them through knowledge.

I am a native of Brazil, and this book is one of the best-known classics of Brazilian Literature. It was one of the very first novels I've read while in school, and it would be a great addition to the library.

This book symbolizes sacred time spent with my family, while also inviting me to re-experience the magic of childhood. I continually challenge myself to embrace the magic of childhood as I raise my family and influence the next generation of social workers.

This is one of my Top 10 favorite books of all time. I purposefully chose a novel, because I hope that faculty and students will recognize the value in reading for pleasure sometimes. Additionally, I have read this book in its English-language edition and in Spanish, and it is just as beautiful in both languages.
Faculty Bookplate 2025. On the occasion of Dr. Shaneda L. Destine's tenure as Associate Professor.
When I read W.E.B Du Bois's The Soul of Black Folks in a Sociology class during my undergraduate studies, I vowed to be a Professor of Sociology. Du Bois is an architect of American and Black Sociology. His theory and methods continue to be a cornerstone to Critical Black scholarship. This book was a turning point for me, and continues to guide my scholarship.
Faculty Bookplate 2025. On the occasion of Dr. Tom Tabler's tenure as Professor.
In honor of my dear friend and mentor, Dr. Ivan L. Berry, who passed away in 2014. Ivan spent many years with USDA-ARS (some in Nebraska) before joining the faculty at the University of Arkansas in 1985 and where I met him in 1990. I still miss his wisdom, sense of humor, and stories of screwworm eradication. Ivan introduced me to the works of Willa Cather, for which I am forever grateful.

This prescient book has stuck with me for years. It displays a depth of understanding of the many facets of human nature that I've never seen anywhere else.
