Professor Thura Mack serves as the Assistant Dean of Libraries’ Community Learning and Engagement. Dean Mack leads the Libraries outreach to schools in Knoxville and the surrounding community which teaches STEM literacy and library research skills to university-bound students. Her several projects include BOSS (Big Orange STEM Saturday) conference, the Reading Design Challenge, and 2nd Bridge, which is a program for students to visit campus and interact with college students and partners.
Dean Mack is the 2021-2022 Macebearer for the University which is the highest faculty honor bestowed at UTK; she is the second African American to receive this honor. She chairs the Libraries' Belonging & Engagement Committee which encourages respect and appreciation for individual differences through a multitude of programs and resources. She also serves as the Co-Advisor for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
