Description
Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library is seeking a Graduate Student Library Assistant (GSLA). Candidates must be dependable, able to work independently, and possess excellent customer service skills. Graduate students from all fields of study are welcome to apply.
Hours per week: 12 - 28
Hours coverage is needed: Mornings Evenings, and Weekends
Responsibilities & Duties
- Manage library on mornings, evenings, and weekends, which includes: supervising work of another student worker; negotiating any facility, security, or patron issues that arise; opening the library and locking up the library at closing time.
- Assist library patrons at the service desk, which may include circulation, reference services, basic technology support, and citation management software.
- Fulfill large format (poster) print, Resource Sharing, and scanning requests.
- Help plan and participate in outreach events such as orientations, fairs, and library programs with the Public Services and Engagement Librarian.
- Support the Makerspace and Technology Coordinator with 3-D printing, makerspace tours, and patron information sessions.
Required Qualifications
- Must be enrolled as a UTK graduate student with at least one year of availability before graduation.
- Must be available to work at least 12 hours per week - morning evenings and weekends.
- Possess excellent communication skills for working with faculty, library staff, students, and the general public.
- Possess a strong public service ethic and excellent customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and related office software products.
