The Immersive Spaces & Technologies department at Hodges Library is seeking to fill a Quarter Time (10hrs/week) Graduate Teaching Assistant position for January 1 – July 31, 2026. The Immersive Spaces & Technologies department provides support for technology rich services in Hodges Library including the Medbery Makerspace, the Studio, and eXperience point. The GTA will have opportunities to learn about all services while focusing primarily on teaching, consultation, and evening service point leadership in the Medbery Makerspace. The makerspace provides tools and resources for arts and crafts, fabrication, and textiles.
Term of Appointment: 10 hours per week, January 1, 2026 – July 31, 2026. 10 hours per week expected to occur primarily during evening hours 2-3 nights per week with specific schedule to be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Responsibilities & Duties
The GTA will be responsible for assisting customers with a range of tools including 3D printers, sewing machines, button makers, vinyl cutters, etc. The GTA will participate in makerspace workshop instruction providing regular equipment certification workshops and assisting with the planning and execution of workshops for classes and groups. Reporting to the Makerspace Manager, the GTA will be responsible for supervising makerspace services 2 nights per week. This work includes providing assistance and responding to patron needs in the makerspace, supervising the work of Student Library Assistants, troubleshooting equipment issues, preparing materials for workshops, and helping to train student employees.
Required Qualifications
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills in individual and group settings
• Some experience with makerspace tools such as sewing machines or 3D printers
• Ability to manage time and projects
• Ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently
• Enthusiasm for learning new technologies
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in teaching and instruction
• Experience working in a library or makerspace
• Significant experience and knowledge of 3D printing or sewing
