Description
The Webster C. Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library is accepting applications for Student Library Assistants. Student Library Assistants are front-line staff for the Pendergrass circulation desk and play an important role in daily library operations. SLAs assist patrons, support circulation and service workflows, complete routine library tasks, and help maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming library environment throughout each shift. This position requires professionalism, dependable attendance, and responsible communication.
Hours per week: 12 to 16 hours per week, typically scheduled in 4-hour shifts.
Hours coverage is needed: Monday through Friday during the summer semester, with most shifts scheduled in 4-hour blocks. Pendergrass summer hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with weekends closed. Applicants should understand that library hours and staffing needs may change with the academic calendar.
Responsibilities & Duties
• Managing the circulation desk, including checking materials in and out and assisting patrons.
• Helping patrons locate library materials and use library resources and services.
• Processing scanning, PDF, item, and other service requests during the shift.
• Assisting with large format printing and other public service tasks after training.
• Shelving and shelf reading materials using the Library of Congress system.
• Helping keep the library clean and orderly by cleaning after patrons and tidying public spaces.
• Communicating responsibly about attendance and giving notice when unable to report for a scheduled shift.
• Assisting library faculty, supervisors, and staff with special projects and other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications
•Current UT student.
•Strong customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
•Previous customer service experience.
•Experience with printers, scanners, and routine computer applications.
•Availability that can support changing scheduling needs across semesters.
•Ability to balance patron service, routine tasks, and assigned projects during a shift.
