UT Press Nov. 14 Panel Discussion on Opportunities for Aspiring Authors, Publishing with the Press

Event Part of Statewide Tour to Highlight Role of University Presses in Publishing

University of Tennessee Press Director Katie Hannah will visit campuses across the state during University Press Week, Nov. 11–15, 2024. Hannah’s tour will spotlight the work of UT Press, the value of university presses in today’s publishing landscape, and opportunities for aspiring authors.

As part of the tour, Hannah will host a panel discussion on publishing with a university press on Thursday, Nov. 14, 6:30 p.m., in Hodges Library’s Lindsay Young Auditorium. The panel will feature press authors Reed Massengill (author of Portrait of a Racist), Gilya Gerda Schmidt (Hazzan Mordecai Gustav Heiser), and Georgiana Vines (East Tennessee Newsmakers).

Tour Events Across Tennessee

The statewide tour will kick off on Monday, Nov. 11, at the University of Tennessee at Martin, followed by events at the University of Tennessee Southern, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and conclude Thursday, Nov. 14, with the event at Hodges Library on the UT Knoxville campus. Throughout the week, Union Ave. Books in downtown Knoxville will display UT Press titles to celebrate University Press Week.

The event lineup includes:

Monday, Nov. 11, UT Martin: Faculty panel on publishing with university presses featuring Katie Hannah, Dan McDonough, and Erik Nordberg; followed by a book event featuring Jim Johnson, UT Press author of Reelfoot Lake: Oasis on the Mississippi.

Tuesday, Nov. 12, UT Southern: Panel on book development, featuring insights from UT Press authors Ken Vickers and Zach Kinslow.

Wednesday, Nov. 13, UT Chattanooga: “Getting Published at a University Press” informational event in the campus library.

Thursday, Nov. 14, UT Knoxville: Panel discussion on publishing with a university press with Katie Hannah and UT Press authors including Reed Massengill, Gilya Gerda Schmidt, and Georgiana Vines.
