It is crucial that all of us - faculty, students, staff, and administrators alike - prioritize holistic well-being and learn to take care of ourselves. As an adult education scholar, I strongly encourage lifelong learning, life-wide learning, and life-deep learning. We are holistic beings who constantly learn, but we often neglect self-care, which is essential for balancing our work, life, and learning. This book reminds us that learning is a way of life!

This is a novel about a journey, about skill, about mysteries, and about larger forces in the world shaping our own and working around us. It's also about the complexity of human experience. All of these themes resonate with me in one way or another. I first read it when I was around 18, and I particularly loved it because it made me think hard about questions of morality and coexistence while also providing that fantasy escape which I've always craved. The story in Sailing to Sarantium finishes in a second book, Lord of Emperors.

I chose this book because it was one of my beloved mother's favorite books. My mother loved reading. She loved learning. She loved traveling and learning about other places, other cultures, and others' lives. And she encouraged me to love the same. Despite the fact that, for most of my K-12 years I performed poorly, and few of my teachers predicted a particularly bright future for me, my mother believed in my abilities and encouraged me at every stage of my journey. Her love for me, belief in me, and support of me are the reasons for my success. Without her steadfast love and support I would not be who I am and where I am today. I try to live my life so as to make my mama proud. Although I lost her in 2009, I have no doubt that she would immensely proud of this accomplishment. So I have chosen Anne of Green Gables to honor the memory of Lynda Danner Stokes, my mama, my biggest supporter, and my best friend.

"The Fifth Season" (the opening book of "The Broken Earth" trilogy) is absolutely stunning. I've been a life-long reader of sci-fi and to a lesser degree fantasy, and I can say that these books are in the top five series of all time. It was a close call between this work and "The Three Body Problem" by Liu Cixin, which the first novel of another thrilling trilogy. I couldn't recommend these more highly.

I choose this book, because I'm a German instructor and we have many master and phd graduates, who study the German language (it might be also of interest for some undergraduates). This book is used by many German universities to obtain a degree in German. I believe that students will benefit from this book.
