The burden of diarrheal diseases has largely been forgotten by high-resource societies, but more than half of the world's population still suffers from these due to a lack of infrastructure. Unfortunately, these diseases tend to impact the most vulnerable in low-resource regions, including children and the elderly. Despite interest from some agencies in addressing this problem, the solutions do not always recognize the cultural or societal nuances of those areas, so their impacts are often limited. As the infectious disease and global health fields move forward in addressing this issue, it is important that we finally consider solutions from the perspective of these communities we are trying to help. This book is one of the first to acknowledge the limitations of those past efforts and outlines some considerations that must be taken if the global community truly wants to assist these communities in improving their quality of life.

This book provided me the opportunity to reflect about what is important to me in my role in the university and helped to regain some of the joy and passion for preparing future teachers. Mentoring is important in the socialization and support of new employees. My research agenda focuses on exploring mentoring experiences, and how these experiences shape and inform the leadership practices of school leaders. This handbook offers an international view of mentoring and will aid scholars in their exploration of mentoring paradigms, practices, programs, and possibilities.

This text is a seminal text in nutrition and dietetics for over 70 years, now in the 16th edition. I used a version of this text as an undergraduate many years ago and it still guides future dietitians today. The newest edition is also published this year, 2023, the year of my promotion.

Dr. Paul Kalanithi was a friend and colleague. He wrote this beautiful memoir about a life dedicated to science and medicine that ended too soon after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. I will never forget talking to him before his diagnosis about his plans for his future lab and practice. This book perfectly captures the importance of relationships for a happy and successful life.
