Description
The Graduate Student Library Assistant for Assessment Programs and Collection Strategy is an essential part of the department's team, assisting with a variety of data-related and technical service tasks. The position provides students the opportunity to gain in-demand technical skills and first-hand experience working in a large academic library and learning from highly qualified practitioners. Students have the opportunity to work with all parts of the collections life cycle, such as selection, acquisition, renewal analyses, and deselection. Students may also work on projects to assess the Libraries’ services and spaces, which vary in topic and activity. Students will gain experience working with an Integrated Library System, Oracle analytics, Python, and LibGuides. Students will become familiar with library acquisition processes, collections data analysis, and automated purchasing methods.
Hours of coverage needed are between 10-20 hours, Monday-Friday, during the hours of 8:00am -4:30pm
Responsibilities & Duties
- Review and route purchase requests.
- Follow up on completed purchases.
- Create webpage content, book plates, and assist with other tasks for the annual Faculty Honors Bookplate Reception.
- Monitor automated purchasing plans.
- Gather usage statistics and clean data.
- Run and review reports for lost, missing, and damaged items, and place order requests for replacements.
Required Qualifications
- Current graduate student
- Good communication skills
- Experience using Microsoft Excel
- Excellent attention to details
- Ability to learn how to use various computer programs and systems
- Ability to complete duties without close supervision
- Ability to work well with others
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in libraries
- Familiarity with L.C. and SUDOC call number system
- Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS)
- Experience editing webpages in WordPress, Drupal, LibGuides, or similar platforms
- Experience with InDesign
