Description

The Assessment Programs and Collection Strategy Department seeks a research assistant to work with primarily qualitative and less-structured data. The department works on a variety of collaborative and independent projects with a focus on demonstrating the value of the Libraries and facilitating continual improvements in the Libraries’ services, spaces, and collections. The research assistant will assist the Assessment Programs Librarian and other Libraries stakeholders in implementing the next edition of the Libraries’ Measuring Information Services Outcomes (MISO) patron experience survey and to code and analyze survey responses, as well as to collect and analyze other qualitative and quantitative data about the Libraries’ collections and services.

This position will provide opportunities for both guided and independent work. The ideal candidate would have an interest in libraries but work experience in a library is not required. An interest in patron/customer-focused assessment and a willingness to learn will be highly valued. Projects undertaken by the research assistant will be supervised by department faculty with the potential for collaboration toward conference presentations and/or publications.

This position is a 12-month appointment, August 1 – July 31, 10 hours per week (1/4 time)

Required Qualifications

  • Current graduate student
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing qualitative and quantitative assessments
  • Experience working with an integrated library system
  • Experience cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing data
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerBI
  • Experience using R or Python
  • Experience using Nvivo
  • Experience performing literature reviews
  • Availability for a work schedule that includes some regular business hours of Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm
