Description

This graduate student position will support the cataloging and discoverability needs of the federal and state government document as well as map collections in Hoskins and Hodges Libraries. It will provide the opportunity to develop in-demand skills and knowledge while working hands-on with library materials. This will include inventorying collections, updating item records, and copy cataloging historic titles. The working hours of this position are Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm. The student will work between 10-20 hours per week.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Preparing collections to move to the Library Storage Annex, including creating inventories, correcting item records, and physical processing.
  • Copy cataloging records to the Libraries' integrated system (Alma).
  • Creating and fulfilling offers lists for other TN Shared Holdings Libraries.
  • Packing and shipping completed offers lists. Compiling, cleaning, and analyzing data.
  • Assists with other various projects as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Current graduate student
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to learn how to use various computer programs and systems
  • Ability to complete duties without close supervision
  • Ability to work well with others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate student in Information Sciences or related program
  • Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS)
  • Experience working in libraries
  • Familiarity with L.C. and SUDOC call number system
