Description

This GSLA position supports the roles and functions of the Cataloging Department of the UT Libraries. Coverage for this position is needed Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm. This position is 15 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters and 20 hours per week during the Summer and Winter Breaks.

Responsibilities & Duties

The GSLA in this position; 

  • Performs database maintenance by:                
    • Working in Library systems to search for catalog records; 
    • Analyzing records to identify and solve database problems under supervision; and 
    • Modifying and/or withdrawing records in the catalog database maintenance projects; 
  • Processes a variety of physical library materials (books, DVDs, etc.) by labeling, applying security strips and more; and 
  • Assists catalogers in departmental projects, and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to type with accuracy 
  • Experience with using office computers 
  • Attention to details
  • Good communication skills 
  • Be physically able to push book carts and lift physical books and other library materials

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of library classifications, subject headings and descriptive cataloging practices 
  • Experience with catalog management applications, such as Ex Libris Alma, OCLC Connexion, or the equivalent(s) 
  • Experience with metadata remediation software, such as MarcEdit 
  • Experience using Excel and/or Google Sheets 
  • Understanding of project management
  • Non-English language skills are a plus
