Description

This position is intended for a graduate student and will support the Cataloging Department in Hodges Library with new and ongoing projects. The role will focus on catalog database maintenance and the processing of physical library materials.

Hours per Semester / Break:
11 hours per week (Fall and Spring semesters)
15 hours per week (Winter break)
15-20 hours per week (Summer)

Hours Coverage is Needed: Monday-Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist with catalog database maintenance workflows, including modifying and updating records.
  • Process physical library materials (e.g., books, DVDs, and other media) by labeling, stamping, and preparing items for circulation.
  • Assist catalogers with departmental projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
  • Experience working with databases, preferably cataloging management platforms such as Alma (Ex Libris), OCLC Connexion, or an equivalent system.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, strong computer skills, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks with consistency.
  • Knowledge of library classification systems.
  • Ability to push book carts and lift boxes of books.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of project and time management principles.
  • Proficiency in one or more non-English languages.
