Antarctica is the least studied continent on Earth because of far distance and limited access. "The Transantarctic Mountains: rocks, ice, meteorites and water" is a fascinating summary of geological studies in Antarctica. Also, it's a tribute to all scientists fascinated by unknown and knowledge, despite of harsh environmental conditions.

On the occasion of Dr. Mee Ja Sula's promotion to Clinical Associate Professor
Although I am sure that many other individuals from the veterinary college may have chosen this book, and it may be considered as a lack of creativity to choose it, I chose James Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small" because it really did and continues to, inspire generations of children to become veterinarians. And to this day, sometimes when I am feeling down about the struggles those of us in this profession face, I listen to a recording of this, or other James Herriot books, and it reminds me why I, and so many other wonderful, empathetic, and brilliant people chose this field.
On the occasion of Kevin Sukanek's promotion to Distinguished Lecturer
This book has had an enormous impact on my teaching philosophy. Even if you aren't in mathematics nor a teacher, I really feel everyone can take something from this book.
On the occasion of Dr. Andrew W. Steiner's tenure and promotion to Associate Professor
"Black Holes, White Dwarfs, and Neutron Stars: The Physics of Compact Objects" is a classic in my field. I recommend it to all my graduate students and still use it myself.

The book I chose is about zoonotic diseases and very much embodies the concept of One Health. It is directly related to my profession and the current times we are navigating.

This book has provided backgrounds, foundations, and a lot of inspiration for my research and teaching. In addition, I helped Dr. Kaviany (the Author) for this edition by writing a few sections, making several figures, and proofreading it.
On the occasion of tenure and promotion to Associate Professor for Dr. Heather Sedges
I chose "Centuries of Childhood" because it was the first book that made me feel like a true scholar in the field of Child & Family Studies. Interpreting and understanding the evolution of adult-child-community relationships across history laid the foundation for my continued curiosity and monitoring of relationship and community trends. Recognizing such evolution in its macro-and micro- forms adds to my ability to create innovative and impactful change in communities at the interpersonal and family-levels.
