This was the first book that I got inspired to practice efficiently.

I was a huge fan of Carl Sagan when I was younger. I read The Demon Haunted World when I was probably 13 or 14 years old and it really helped shaped my views on the importance of science and ultimately inspired me to become a scientist.

The innovative ideas shared in this book have shaped my thinking as a researcher and the classes I teach.

Thank you for allowing me to choose a book to commemorate my recent promotion. I spent several months of the year 2020 learning about racism and anti-racism through books and podcasts. The Ibram Kendi book 'How to be an Antiracist' was especially helpful to me as I furthered my learning about this topic.

It's a great description of the harrowing events aboard MIR and the risks humans undertake to explore beyond our planet.

So, I started reading books about how to better "spark their learning". This book really resonated with me as a way to really engage students, help them become emotionally invested in the material, help motivate them to learn, and help them retain the information for years to come.
