About Scot Danforth

Scot Danforth has served the University of Tennessee Press since 1994, when he was hired as a copy editor, promoted to acquisitions editor, and, since 2008, has served as the Press’s director. Prior to joining the University of Tennessee Press, Scot served in similar positions at the University of Arkansas Press for five years. Scot has had a hand in the production of hundreds of books, in all the diverse disciplines the Press publishes in, notably among them Appalachian Studies, American Civil War, and religious history. Under his leadership, the Press’s staff has remained remarkably stable and has adapted well to a constantly changing publishing environment. Scot has announced plans to retire in the Spring of 2024, which will mark his 30th anniversary of service to the University of Tennessee Press. He will be spending his retirement playing his collection of antique guitars, mandolins, and banjos.
